SAUBER
For many teams 2002 program presentation was the occasion to show ambitions and projects and many of them hope to be able to position themselves just after the three F1 main teams.
In 2001 the prestigious 4th place after teams like Ferrari, Mclaren and Williams has been misted of the Swiss Sauber which with a very good season got pretty satisfied. This years situation will be more difficult: BAR, Jordan, Renault, Jaguar think not to make any more mistakes and to finally take the right direction to get to the top, well see the results. In any case the designated victim is Sauber as if they only had a clamorous lucky hit. Actually they took advantage of the singular coincidence of problems of other teams even though it surely had some merits of its own.
The new Sauber C21 is an evolution of the old car coming from the technical staff hard work of refinements even thanks to the regulation stability.
In fact the differences are few and difficult to evaluate immediately. Externally one can see a different shape of the nose which is larger, square and less flowing. The sides have become larger to be able to host bigger parcels using a line very similar to Ferraris 2000 been taller towards the main body of the car. Talking about the mechanical side they kept some characteristic of the old car, mainly in the particular shape of the chassis around the front suspension area, solution thats teaching everybody. The vertical rod stays the same for the front wing which still has a sunken profile in the central part; though this part often changes before the start of the championship.
Basically its only a sharpening of last years car which did well in every type of racing track having been generally reliable; thanks to ex Ferraris engine the level of the car will surely benefit from its important evolution updated last September with power, dimension and weight improvements.
