Teams 2002:
B.A.R.
As it is traditionally, B.A.R. presented its new car well in
advance before the start of the season.
This is a choice in order to be able to test the car and to solve any problem
it may occur but has the disadvantage of not letting the engineering staff to
test until the very last minute the project at the wind gallery.
In these last few years B.A.R. surely hasn't gone fast and in 2001 they had
structural problems at the chassis. The new 004 is not too different from the
predecessor with some changes in the body and the front that looks slightly
more square; the engineers should have increased the stiffness and strength
of the car as last year seemed to be a problem. In the classical style of the
team the side are quite large with double back wings; seems to be better the
joint with the engine thanks to the new Honda been sensibly lowered and enlarged
in the opening corner of the engine.
Honda has done a good job in the engine evolution to oppose
to the other teams and the collaboration with the anglo-american team's engineers
is so tight that they deal with body problems as well.
It's been said about a Honda project rounding off engine-gear and this would
confirm about a future entry of the Japanese firm with a total new F1, mainly
for a question of look, considering that Toyota has done the same.
The challenge Jordan-B.A.R. for the highest authority (they both use Honda engines) will be conclusive; last year they both let down and soon a choice will be made. From this point of view must be seen Craig Pollok resignation who in three years time wasn't able to reach the team intended goals, the prompt arrival of David Richards always close to the sponsor British American Tobacco and in the past close to Benetton.
