Claire Williams Steps Down as Deputy Team Principal

Williams Racing’s Deputy Team Principal, Claire Williams is to step down from her role with the team following the conclusion of the Italian Grand Prix this weekend.

Claire joined Williams in an official capacity in 2002 working in the Communications Office. In 2012, Claire was appointed to the Board in her position as Commercial and Marketing Director before taking over the day-to-day running of the team in 2013 as Deputy Team Principal. Claire has led the team to two third and two fifth place finishes in the Constructors’ Championship over the last seven years.

In addition to her efforts on the racing side of the business, Claire has worked to drive greater gender diversity across the sport while also promoting engineering to the next generation. While at the helm of the team, Claire was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the Queen’s 2016 Birthday Honours List in recognition of her services to Formula One.

Claire’s final act as Deputy Team Principal, and probably one of the most crucial, was the part she played in the successful campaigning for a more sustainable Formula One. The new Concorde Agreement, now signed by all teams, maps out a more level playing field for the sport with more equitable financial and technical regulations moving forwards that the team will be able to capitalise upon from 2021 and beyond.

Claire Williams OBE, Deputy Team Principal: “It is with a heavy heart that I am stepping away from my role with the team. I had hoped to continue my tenure long into the future and to preserve the Williams family’s legacy into the next generation. However, our need to find inward investment earlier this year due to a number of factors, many of which were outside of our control, resulted in the sale of the team to Dorilton Capital. My family has always put our racing team and our people first and this was absolutely the right decision. I know in them we have found the right people to take Williams back to the front of the grid while also preserving the Williams legacy.

“I have taken the decision to step away from the team in order to allow Dorilton a fresh start as the new owners. It has not been an easy decision but it’s one I believe to be right for all involved. I have been enormously privileged to have grown up in this team and in the wonderful world that is Formula One. I have loved every minute and will be forever grateful for the opportunities it has given me. But it’s also an incredibly challenging sport and I now want to see what else the world holds for me. Most importantly, I want to spend time with my family.

“I would like to thank Dorilton for their support and for understanding my decision. I would also like to thank our fans who have stuck by us through thick and thin. Our people at Williams have always been family, they have kept me motivated during the difficult times and it is them who I will miss the most. It is my genuine hope that the process we’ve gone through brings them the success they deserve. And finally, I would like to thank my Dad for everything he has given to the team, the sport and our family.”

Penso fosse fisiologico, dopo la cessione della squadra.
Dicendoci la verità vera, la fine di un'era è arrivata nel momento in cui prima Head, e poi Frank Williams hanno abbandonato l'attività.
Fisiologicamente, considerando l'età ed l'intervenuto cambio epocale nel mondo della Formula 1.

Claire ha tentato di portare avanti l'eredità paterna, ma molto probabilmente ha mancato di autorevolezza e carisma.
Oltre ad aver portato avanti per diversi anni un ruolo che non poteva essere suo e che, nei disegni societari, era stato destinato ad altri. Del resto il suo curriculum ed il suo backround erano orientati sull'area del marketing e comunicazione.

Tuttavia è stato lodevole il suo impegno, soprattutto negli ultimi negativi anni, dopo l'enorme fregatura del ritorno di Paddy Lowe ed il "tradimento" di Stroll.

Certo sostituire una figura come Frank era pressochè impossibile, ma molto probabilmente è finito il tempo di padri padroni nella Formula 1 odierna.

Tutto cambia e spero che la Williams, in mani più solide, possa tornare ad essere un nome importante della Formula 1.

Il mezzo non può essere portato fisicamente al traguardo con l'ausilio del pilota.

Con l'addio della famiglia Williams si chiude definitivamente l'epoca dei padri padroni in Formula 1. Spero soltanto che chi prenderà in mano le redini della squadra abbia per lo meno la giusta passione per le corse. I precedenti non sono incoraggianti quando sono subentrati elementi di scarsa conoscenza della materia, ma vorrei essere fiducioso.

Il gruppo di investimenti è solido e di cultura prettamente Brit.
Paiono molto interessati a conservare il nome Williams e la tradizione che si porta dietro.
Comprensibile la scelta di Claire, nonostante le richieste di rimanere nel Board, di lasciare totalmente la squadra e l'azienda.
Quando vendi qualcosa col tuo nome, non puoi restare con un ruolo di secondo piano, solo per mantenere la tradizione. Molto più coerente farsi da parte e lasciare agli acquirenti lo spazio necessario per rilanciare il brand.

Il gruppo Dorilton pare sia "solo" un prestanome che ha agito per conto di un soggetto terzo (si dice una ricca famiglia Inglese) che vuole mantenere l'anonimato.

Spero che la Williams torni dove merita di stare. Anche se, senza Frank, sarà una Williams a metà.Meglio comunque che scomparire del tutto. Già troppi nomi storici sono scomparsi. Che tristezza pensare a Tyrrel, Lotus, Brabamh, Ligier, Minardi...e tanti alltri che , meno famosi , hanno comunque contribuito a creare il mito della F1.

Nel mentre Wolff esce allo scoperto affermando l'esistenza di un accordo con Marchionne per il suo passaggio a capo di Liberty Media ed il suo rapporto più che cordiale con Arrivabene.

Facile quindi credere che, dietro il Ferrarigate, altro non vi sia che la vendetta di Mercedes e di Wolff nello specifico.

E facile anche ipotizzare che, con Marchionne ed Arrivabene, Wolff e Lauda avessero un accordo di non belligeranza: gli uni avrebbero appoggiato le mire espansionistiche di Wolff e gli altri avrebbero chiuso un occhio verso certe furbate (a loro certamente note, viste le evoluzioni simil Ferrari della p.u. Mercedes).

Resto sempre più convinto che Vettel, nel 2018, sia stato messo nelle condizioni tecnico/ambientali per non vincere quel titolo, tanto più che - finalmente - in tanti iniziano ad essere convinti del fatto che Vettel non sia stato adeguatamente supportato.

Molti protagonisti di quella prima parte del 2018 sono stati messi alla porta, e non è certo un caso.

Mi permetto di dire che, al netto della politica, la frangia vincente di questa ennesima guerra interna a Maranello, sta mostrando quelle che sono le proprie reali capacità.

Una cosa è certa: la storia della Formula 1 ricorderà Vettel per i suoi 4 mondiali, per il suo terzo posto (che dovrebbe essere secondo a pari merito) fra i piloti più vincenti di Maranello e, forse, per il suo errore al GP di Germania 2018, mentre la gestione Binotto verrà ricordata per averci donato la peggior Ferrari degli ultimi 40 anni.

Intanto è stato ufficializzato il cambio di denominazione del team Renault in Alpine.

Questo prima di tutto indica la volontà della casa francese di restare in F1 e con maggiore impegno.
Nei mesi scorsi il dubbio sul proseguito dell'impegno erano sorti senza avere un vero segnale da parte della squadra.

Ovvio che la possibilità di scalzare la Ferrari per il prossimo biennio, ha ringalluzzito la compagnia.
Sono peraltro cresciuti anche se resta da vedere quanto questo 2020 passato a spasso possa aver influito sulla guida di Alonso.
Basta vedere Ocon come sta faticando dopo una sola stagione di assenza.

Scuderia Ferrari Mission Winnow announces that it has notified the International Court of Appeal of its decision to withdraw the appeal filed with the Case ICA-2020-01-02-03-04.

In recent weeks, the collaboration between FIA, Formula 1 and the teams has produced a series of acts - amendments to the 2021 Technical and Sporting Regulations, approved by the F1 Commission and the FIA World Motor Sport Council, and Technical Directives - which clarify the responsibilities of each Championship participant in the design of the components of a single-seater and implement specific monitoring procedures to ensure that both the letter and the spirit of the Regulations are fully respected.

Scuderia Ferrari expresses its appreciation for the timeliness with which the FIA and Formula 1 have effectively tackled a fundamental aspect of the DNA of this highly competitive sport.
